Night Heron

Suspension Collective

The Night Heron Suspension Collective is a group of experienced hook suspension practitioners and enthusiasts facilitating suspensions in Oakland, California. We aim to create an inclusive, supportive environment where people can safely explore suspension under expert guidance. We prioritize education, safety protocols, and building community. We frequently attend suspension events around the world where we facilitate suspensions and continue our education with the global suspension community. We also regularly collaborate with our sister collectives in Denver and Ontario.

Events

We host regular monthly suspension meets in a private warehouse studio space, called The Clubhouse, in West Oakland. Everyone is welcome to come to our events. We typically begin around noon and do suspensions until the evening.

Suspension

Hook suspension, or body suspension, is the practice of temporarily suspending one’s body with hooks pierced through the skin. While many cultures throughout history have developed variations of this practice, contemporary suspension has evolved into a form of personal expression, performance art, and ritualistic practice. Every suspension is unique and each person sets their own intention for the experience.
